| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize singer, songwriter, and pianist John Legend for his |

| 4 | 4 | | accomplishments in the field of entertainment and his many |

| 5 | 5 | | contributions to civic and philanthropic causes; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A five-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend |

| 7 | 7 | | burst into public consciousness in 2004 with his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | multiplatinum-selling debut album Get Lifted; he has also |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | collaborated with such artists as Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn |

| 10 | 10 | | Hill, and Alicia Keys to produce an impressive body of memorable |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | music; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, John Legend has broadened his appeal by branching |

| 13 | 13 | | out into television and movies, appearing several times on The |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Colbert Report and in the film Soul Men with Samuel L. Jackson and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the late Bernie Mac; his music has been featured in the sound |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | tracks for the films Hitch and The Second Chance; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He has made a difference in the lives of many |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | people by starting the Show Me Campaign, which works to aid the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | victims of extreme poverty in Mbola, Tanzania; he has also |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | performed at the Live Earth concert, the Peace One Day concert, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and the 2008 Democratic National Convention; now, therefore, be |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend John Legend on his many achievements |

| 25 | 25 | | and contributions to society and extend to him best wishes for |

| 26 | 26 | | continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
