| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe, who has been |

| 4 | 4 | | selected as the 2009 recipient of the Santa Rita Award from The |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | University of Texas System; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Given annually to those who have contributed in a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | substantive way to The University of Texas System in its |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | development efforts, the Santa Rita Award serves to acknowledge |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Governor Briscoe's long and productive relationship with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Center for American History on the campus of The University of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas at Austin; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Governor Briscoe has worked for many years to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ensure that the Center for American History remains one of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | premier research institutes in the world; he has served on its |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | advisory council and donated more than $15 million in funding, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and in 2007, the Dolph and Janey Briscoe Fund for Texas History |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | was established to support research activities at the center; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Governor Briscoe's generosity has transformed the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | center's collecting abilities, and in recognition of his many |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | contributions, the center was recently renamed the Dolph Briscoe |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Center for American History; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Governor Briscoe has served our state with |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | distinction, honor, and integrity for more than 50 years; he is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the quintessential Texan and justly deserving of recognition for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | his service and his many accomplishments on behalf of the people |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend former Governor Dolph Briscoe on his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | legacy of exceptional service to higher education in our state |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
