| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the representatives of Amigos Del Valle, Incorporated, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | who are celebrating Senior Day at the State Capitol on February |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | 10, 2009; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Amigos Del Valle, Incorporated, is a consortium |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of county and city governmental entities working to provide |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | nutrition, transportation, and housing services to the senior |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | citizens of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties and helping |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | them to live healthy, productive, and self-sufficient lives; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Texas' senior citizens have devoted their lives to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | making this state a better place in which to live, work, and raise |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | families; it is fitting that they are accorded the services they |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | need and the opportunities and esteem they so richly deserve; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Amigos Del Valle began offering services to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | seniors in 1975 with a budget of $375,000; thousands of senior |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | citizens have used its services to maintain their health and live |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | their lives with dignity; by 2008, the agency's annual budget had |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | increased to approximately $7 million; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Amigos Del Valle provides its wide range of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | services and activities for seniors through an established |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | network of employees and more than 500 volunteers and through 30 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | senior centers, nine senior multifamily rental housing projects, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and a central kitchen facility; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The agency has been honored for its outstanding |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | services from such organizations as the National Council of La |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Raza, the Southwest Society on Aging, and Hispanic Business |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Magazine; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend all those involved with Amigos Del |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Valle, Incorporated, for its good work and extend a warm welcome |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to its representatives on Senior Day at the State Capitol; and, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | be it further |
