SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 156 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Marion Velarde, who has been honored with a 2008 District Award of Merit by the Tip O Tex District, Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, Marion Velarde has held numerous leadership positions with the district, including district commissioner, assistant commissioner, popcorn colonel, and assistant chair for the camporee; and WHEREAS, For eight years she has served as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 11 at Saint Mary's Church and has served on the troop committee for five years; her son, Alejandro Velarde Zendejas, is an Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, Marion has served in many valuable positions for the Rio Grande Council; she has been a Scout leader basic trainer and an advanced Scout leader trainer, has served on the council camporee staff and as a Pow Wow volunteer, and has served as a camp and badge counselor; she is also a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow; and WHEREAS, The efforts of volunteers like Marion Velarde have helped the Boy Scouts of America continue to build character, leadership ability, and good citizenship in boys and young men, and she is truly worthy of recognition for her leadership and exemplary service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Marion Velarde for her outstanding service on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America and extend to her congratulations on earning the 2008 District Award of Merit; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
