| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Marion Velarde, who has been honored with a 2008 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | District Award of Merit by the Tip O Tex District, Boy Scouts of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | America; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Marion Velarde has held numerous leadership |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | positions with the district, including district commissioner, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | assistant commissioner, popcorn colonel, and assistant chair for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the camporee; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, For eight years she has served as an assistant |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | scoutmaster for Troop 11 at Saint Mary's Church and has served on |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the troop committee for five years; her son, Alejandro Velarde |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Zendejas, is an Eagle Scout; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Marion has served in many valuable positions for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Rio Grande Council; she has been a Scout leader basic trainer |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and an advanced Scout leader trainer, has served on the council |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | camporee staff and as a Pow Wow volunteer, and has served as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | camp and badge counselor; she is also a Brotherhood Member of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Order of the Arrow; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The efforts of volunteers like Marion Velarde |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | have helped the Boy Scouts of America continue to build |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | character, leadership ability, and good citizenship in boys and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | young men, and she is truly worthy of recognition for her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | leadership and exemplary service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Marion Velarde for her outstanding |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | service on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America and extend to her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | congratulations on earning the 2008 District Award of Merit; and, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
