22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the recipients of the 2009 Texas Exes Awards for
44 Outstanding Teachers for their exemplary contributions to the
55 cause of education in Texas; and
66 WHEREAS, The future of Texas depends on its children, who
77 must be fully equipped with the skills needed to successfully
88 meet the challenges that lie ahead in the 21st century; their
99 success would not be possible without the commitment and
1010 enthusiasm provided by teachers such as the outstanding 2009
1111 honorees; and
1212 WHEREAS, Alan Barkemeyer of Rosebud-Lott High School in
1313 Rosebud and Penny Smeltzer of Westwood High School in Austin are
1414 receiving The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Award; Bonnie Blum of
1515 West End Elementary in Industry is receiving The Suzan and Julius
1616 Glickman Award; Todd Clearwater of Klein Oak High School in
1717 Spring is receiving The Houston Texas Exes Chapter Award; Mike
1818 Ferguson of Hebron High School in Carrollton is receiving The
1919 Mrs. Harold B. Myers Award; Kimberly Fudge of Richland High
2020 School in North Richland Hills is receiving The Gordon Appleman
2121 Award; Jim Furgeson of McCallum High School in Austin, Thadious
2222 T. Polasek of Flatonia Secondary School in Flatonia, and Brenda
2323 Vanek of Judson High School in Converse are receiving The Lillian
2424 B. Rhodes Award; Donna Gabrysch of West Hardin High School in
2525 Saratoga is receiving The Jane Johnson Wilson Award; Adriano M.
2626 Gonzalez of Business Careers High School in San Antonio is
2727 receiving The Glaxo Award; and Dora Alicia Newell of
2828 Thigpen-Zavala Elementary in McAllen is receiving The Verna
2929 Rogers Award; and
3030 WHEREAS, All of these highly regarded professionals have
3131 earned recognition from their peers for their proven ability to
3232 capture the imagination and attention of their students, for
3333 their instructional expertise, and for their collegial approach;
3434 and
3535 WHEREAS, The Texas Exes Awards program is jointly
3636 presented by The University of Texas at Austin, its College of
3737 Education, and the Texas Exes; as a recipient of the Texas Exes
3838 Award, each of these educators has achieved a rare distinction
3939 that is deserving of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be
4040 it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
4242 Legislature, hereby commend the recipients of the Texas Exes
4343 Awards for Outstanding Teachers and extend to them best wishes
4444 for continued success in all their future endeavors; and, be it
4545 further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 these dedicated teachers as an expression of high regard from the
4848 Texas Senate.
