2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the recipients of the 2009 Texas Exes Awards for
4	4	Outstanding Teachers for their exemplary contributions to the
5	5	cause of education in Texas; and
6	6	WHEREAS, The future of Texas depends on its children, who
7	7	must be fully equipped with the skills needed to successfully
8	8	meet the challenges that lie ahead in the 21st century; their
9	9	success would not be possible without the commitment and
10	10	enthusiasm provided by teachers such as the outstanding 2009
11	11	honorees; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Alan Barkemeyer of Rosebud-Lott High School in
13	13	Rosebud and Penny Smeltzer of Westwood High School in Austin are
14	14	receiving The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Award; Bonnie Blum of
15	15	West End Elementary in Industry is receiving The Suzan and Julius
16	16	Glickman Award; Todd Clearwater of Klein Oak High School in
17	17	Spring is receiving The Houston Texas Exes Chapter Award; Mike
18	18	Ferguson of Hebron High School in Carrollton is receiving The
19	19	Mrs. Harold B. Myers Award; Kimberly Fudge of Richland High
20	20	School in North Richland Hills is receiving The Gordon Appleman
21	21	Award; Jim Furgeson of McCallum High School in Austin, Thadious
22	22	T. Polasek of Flatonia Secondary School in Flatonia, and Brenda
23	23	Vanek of Judson High School in Converse are receiving The Lillian
24	24	B. Rhodes Award; Donna Gabrysch of West Hardin High School in
25	25	Saratoga is receiving The Jane Johnson Wilson Award; Adriano M.
26	26	Gonzalez of Business Careers High School in San Antonio is
27	27	receiving The Glaxo Award; and Dora Alicia Newell of
28	28	Thigpen-Zavala Elementary in McAllen is receiving The Verna
29	29	Rogers Award; and
30	30	WHEREAS, All of these highly regarded professionals have
31	31	earned recognition from their peers for their proven ability to
32	32	capture the imagination and attention of their students, for
33	33	their instructional expertise, and for their collegial approach;
34	34	and
35	35	WHEREAS, The Texas Exes Awards program is jointly
36	36	presented by The University of Texas at Austin, its College of
37	37	Education, and the Texas Exes; as a recipient of the Texas Exes
38	38	Award, each of these educators has achieved a rare distinction
39	39	that is deserving of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be
40	40	it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
42	42	Legislature, hereby commend the recipients of the Texas Exes
43	43	Awards for Outstanding Teachers and extend to them best wishes
44	44	for continued success in all their future endeavors; and, be it
45	45	further
46	46	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
47	47	these dedicated teachers as an expression of high regard from the
48	48	Texas Senate.
