SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 174 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce for its role in promoting science education; and WHEREAS, With an understanding of the importance of an educated populace, the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce strives to bring economic vitality and growth to the area by building a sustained program of enriched education for the community; and WHEREAS, This outstanding organization supports a wide array of programs that work directly with area schools to create, support, and sustain educational excellence in the sciences; it offers job readiness programs and employment to students within the chamber itself; and WHEREAS, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Columbia Summer Science Intern program encourages interest in the sciences, and the NASA Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine serves as a model of scientific inquiry and research; and WHEREAS, With a plan that also includes the Summer Teacher Associate Program, Science and Technology Week, and the provision of Internet-based teaching and learning resources, the chamber has further demonstrated its commitment to educational excellence in science; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce on its role in furthering science education and its efforts in advancing cooperation between local schools and businesses; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
