55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Mary Alice
77 Romo-Partida, who died February 1, 2009, at the age of 79; and
88 WHEREAS, Mary Alice was born May 18, 1929, in Freeport,
99 Texas, to Catarino and Fidencia Escamilla Garza; she grew up in
1010 Houston and graduated from Milby High School in 1948; and
1111 WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, she was a member of Catholic
1212 Daughters and served as a Eucharistic minister and church
1313 secretary for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church; in her
1414 later years, she attended Saint Helen Catholic Church in
1515 Pearland; and
1616 WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, she was respected in the
1717 community for her accomplishments and was a member of The Young
1818 at Heart Club and Milby Hispanic Alumni; and
1919 WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
2020 she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
2121 warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
2222 knew her; and
2323 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
2424 and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
2525 her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2727 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2828 family of Mary Alice Romo-Partida: her husband, Frank Partida;
2929 her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis James Romo and Peggy,
3030 Daniel Martin Romo and Lynda, Terry Rene Romo and Blanca, and
3131 Russell Glenn Romo; her sisters, Rebecca Ramirez and Betty
3232 Garcia; and her grandchildren, stepchildren, and
3333 stepgrandchildren; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
3636 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
3737 day, it do so in memory of Mary Alice Romo-Partida.
