                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 198
 In Memory
 of
 Charles Francis Weekley
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of San Benito in mourning the loss of Charles Francis
 "Chuck" Weekley, who died August 3, 2008, at the age of 79; and
 WHEREAS, Charles Francis Weekley was born February 19,
 1929, in Bunston, Missouri; he moved to Texas at the age of four,
 and he attended Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School, where he was
 president of his senior class and participated in athletics and
 band; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Weekley attended Edinburg Junior College and
 The University of Texas at Austin before serving as a lieutenant
 in the United States Air Force, where he flew 57 missions over
 Korea; and
 WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Weekley and
 his wife, Meredith, moved to San Benito, where they raised four
 children; a successful businessman, he managed and owned Whalen
 Furniture Company, and he was chief executive officer of Briar
 Ridge, Incorporated; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Weekley was committed to civic concerns and
 served the City of San Benito as a city commissioner and as mayor,
 where he was given wide acknowledgment for steering the city
 through fiscal difficulties; he was a member of the Rotary and
 Kiwanis Clubs and was inducted into the San Benito Chamber of
 Commerce Hall of Fame; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, kindness, and generosity, he
 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom and valued counsel
 will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and his
 family and friends will continue to live with the cherished
 memory of his life and his many accomplishments; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family and friends of Charles Francis Weekley; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Charles Francis Weekley.
