| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Honorable Paul Moreno for his many years of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | outstanding service to his constituents and to our state; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Representative Paul Moreno is a native of El Paso, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | where he grew up in El Segundo Barrio; following his graduation |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | from high school, he served the nation for six years as a member |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of the United States Marine Corps before earning a bachelor's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | degree from The University of Texas at El Paso; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, First elected to the Texas House of Representatives |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in 1967, Representative Moreno became the longest-serving Hispanic |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | elected official in the nation; he is a veteran of 20 regular |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | legislative sessions, and he served as dean of the Texas House of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Representatives; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Representative Moreno is committed to the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | proposition that every citizen is entitled to effective legal |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | representation, and to that end, he cofounded El Paso Legal |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Assistance; he is also a founding member of the Tejano Democrats; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | throughout his tenure in the legislature, he has given voice to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the poor, the disabled, and the disenfranchised; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Representative Moreno was considered by many to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | be the "Conscience of the House" because of his passionate |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | advocacy for those less fortunate; a dedicated and commendable |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | public servant, he is respected and admired by his colleagues, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and the Texas House of Representatives is a better place for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | having benefitted from his many years of service within it; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | commend Representative Paul Moreno on his many achievements and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions as a member of the Texas House of Representatives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and extend to him sincere gratitude for his exemplary service and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his commitment to our state; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
