SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Edgewood Independent School District in San Antonio on the occasion of the opening of the new campus of C. P. Stafford Elementary School; and WHEREAS, The grand opening takes place January 21, 2009, and is being celebrated with a parade down 36th Street from the old campus to the new one; over 700 children and staff members are participating; and WHEREAS, The school opened in 1931 and is one of the oldest in the district; it was named for Mr. C. P. Stafford, who was instrumental in purchasing four acres for its campus; the original building had six classrooms; and WHEREAS, The establishment of the new campus was a community effort that began in 2004; a campaign was launched to explain the need to raise additional tax funds in order to match a state grant, and a successful bond election was held; construction on the new campus began in 2007; and WHEREAS, The new campus features 70,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced computer laboratories, a new library, and spacious classrooms; and WHEREAS, Over the years, the school has played a major part in the education of thousands of students, and the completion of the new C. P. Stafford campus reflects the commitment of the Edgewood community, the district's board of trustees, and school administrators to providing the best possible educational environment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby congratulate the Edgewood Independent School District on the opening of the new C. P. Stafford Elementary School campus; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this event.
