| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Boys and Girls Clubs of Texas for the valuable |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | contribution they make to the young people of this state; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to over |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 418,000 school-aged young people in 172 cities in Texas; their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | goal is to inspire all young people, especially those who need it |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | most, to realize their full potential as productive, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | responsible, and caring citizens; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Through strong, evidence-based, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | proven-effective youth development programs, leaders in the Boys |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and Girls Clubs stress character and leadership development, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education and career advancement, and health and life skills; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | they encourage an appreciation for the arts and provide programs |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in sports, fitness, and recreation; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The programs promote a better self-image and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | improved educational, social, emotional, and cultural awareness |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | while encouraging community involvement, strong moral values, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and enhanced life management skills; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, On March 10, 2009, one of eight finalists from |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas will be chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year to represent |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the State of Texas in the National Youth of the Year contest for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | encouraged young people to aspire to the highest level of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | personal development and to become good citizens who are involved |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Boys and Girls Clubs across Texas for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the outstanding services they provide young people and their |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | families; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas |
|---|
