SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 213 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize South Texas College's Mid-Valley Campus, which is celebrating the college's 15th anniversary on March 25, 2009; and WHEREAS, South Texas College is one of the nation's leading and fastest growing community colleges; it has 20,000 students attending classes on five campuses and employs more than 1,600 faculty and staff members; offering more than 100 degree and certificate programs, it is ranked in the top 100 out of 1,100 community colleges in the nation for awarding associate degrees, and it has received wide recognition for its excellent programs; and WHEREAS, The Mid-Valley Campus provides educational opportunities for the citizens of Weslaco, Donna, Mercedes, and the surrounding communities; the campus was established in 1997 and has grown to include modern facilities spread across an area of 46.5 acres; and WHEREAS, The campus promotes job creation in the Mid-Valley area; it is home to South Texas College's Garden Project and Border Studies Club, and it is the base for the region's annual Walk for Education; and WHEREAS, South Texas College's Mid-Valley Campus deserves recognition for its efforts to provide educational resources for the previously underserved residents of Weslaco, Donna, Mercedes, and surrounding communities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the students, faculty, staff, and administrators at South Texas College's Mid-Valley Campus for an outstanding 15th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
