| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize South Texas College's Mid-Valley Campus, which is |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating the college's 15th anniversary on March 25, 2009; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, South Texas College is one of the nation's leading |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and fastest growing community colleges; it has 20,000 students |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | attending classes on five campuses and employs more than 1,600 |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | faculty and staff members; offering more than 100 degree and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | certificate programs, it is ranked in the top 100 out of 1,100 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | community colleges in the nation for awarding associate degrees, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and it has received wide recognition for its excellent programs; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Mid-Valley Campus provides educational |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | opportunities for the citizens of Weslaco, Donna, Mercedes, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the surrounding communities; the campus was established in 1997 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and has grown to include modern facilities spread across an area |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of 46.5 acres; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The campus promotes job creation in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mid-Valley area; it is home to South Texas College's Garden |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Project and Border Studies Club, and it is the base for the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | region's annual Walk for Education; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, South Texas College's Mid-Valley Campus deserves |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognition for its efforts to provide educational resources for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the previously underserved residents of Weslaco, Donna, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Mercedes, and surrounding communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the students, faculty, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | staff, and administrators at South Texas College's Mid-Valley |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Campus for an outstanding 15th anniversary celebration; and, be |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
