| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Aransas County in proclaiming February 26, |

| 4 | 4 | | 2009, Aransas County Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Aransas County was created from Refugio County in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1871 and was named after Rio Nuestra Seora de Aranzazu, a name |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | derived from a famous Spanish palace; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The county's prime location on the southern |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | coastal plains and its diversified economy have ensured its |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | prosperity; agribusiness, tourism, oil and gas production, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | fish packing are the region's major industries; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Aransas County is home to the Fulton Mansion State |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Historic Structure, a three-story, French Second-Empire style |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | house built by rancher and businessman George W. Fulton, Sr., and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to the Texas Maritime Museum, the official maritime museum of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | State of Texas, which is dedicated to preserving and interpreting |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the rich maritime heritage of Texas; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In the county seat of Rockport, the Rockport |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Center for the Arts brings together artists and art lovers in a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | stimulating atmosphere, and the Rockport Beach Park has been |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | declared Texas' only Blue Wave Beach, having met the high quality |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | standards set by the Clean Beaches Council; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The county's Goose Island State Park is home to the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Big Tree, and its fishing piers, boat ramps, and marinas offer |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | outdoor sports enthusiasts abundant recreational opportunities; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | nature lovers and bird watchers find in Aransas County a wealth of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | places to tour, particularly the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | which is full of various species of wildlife and is the principal |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | wintering ground of the endangered whooping crane; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Aransas County is a leading participant in our |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | state's dynamic growth, and its rich cultural traditions are a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | source of pride to its citizens and all other Texans; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby join Texans across the state in celebrating |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | February 26, 2009, as Aransas County Day at the State Capitol; |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and, be it further |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
