| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 4 | 4 | | University System and citizens across the state in celebrating |

| 5 | 5 | | February 18, 2009, as Texas State University System Legislative |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The oldest state university system in Texas, the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas State University System originated in 1911 as a means to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | support and manage the state teachers colleges; since then, the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | system has evolved into a network of institutions committed to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | preparing students for the rigors of an increasingly global |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | economy; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State University System is comprised of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | eight campuses situated across the state offering a diverse array |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of academic and career paths; Lamar University, Sam Houston State |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | University, Sul Ross State University, Sul Ross State University |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Rio Grande College, Texas State University-San Marcos, Lamar |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | State College--Orange, Lamar State College--Port Arthur, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Lamar Institute of Technology combine to form one of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | backbones of higher education in our state; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The mission of the Texas State University System |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | is to provide a high-quality education that is affordable and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | accessible and to enrich the lives of its students and enable |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | them to become productive and contributing members of society; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The theme of this year's legislative day is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | "Creative Solutions during Challenging Times in Higher |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Education"; the system is truly deserving of recognition for its |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | invaluable role in maintaining the excellence of higher |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | education in our state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas State University System on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | its many contributions to the furtherance of higher education in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the state and extend a sincere welcome to Austin to its |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | delegation for Texas State University System Legislative Day at |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the State Capitol; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
