                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 248
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the Urban League of Greater Dallas in recognizing Cheryl L.
 Mayo, who is receiving a legacy torch from the Urban League on
 February 26, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, The Urban League is the nation's oldest and
 largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African
 Americans and others to enter the economic and social mainstream;
 the Urban League of Greater Dallas follows the national
 organization's mission and promotes economic self-reliance,
 parity, power, and civil rights; and
 WHEREAS, Cheryl Mayo is the executive director of West
 Dallas Community Centers, Incorporated, where she oversees the
 management and programs for four community-based centers for
 at-risk youths; and
 WHEREAS, She received a bachelor of science degree in
 business management from Fisk University and earned a master of
 science degree in public health and healthcare administration
 from Meharry Medical College; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to her job, Cheryl generously devotes
 her time and energy as a mentor to women and girls in the
 community; she is active in Girls, Incorporated; Delta Sigma
 Theta Sorority, Incorporated; The Links, Incorporated; and the
 Dallas Women's Foundation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Cheryl L. Mayo for her many
 achievements and her service to her community and extend to her
 congratulations on being selected to receive a legacy torch from
 the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
