11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 248
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join the Urban League of Greater Dallas in recognizing Cheryl L.
44 Mayo, who is receiving a legacy torch from the Urban League on
55 February 26, 2009; and
66 WHEREAS, The Urban League is the nation's oldest and
77 largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African
88 Americans and others to enter the economic and social mainstream;
99 the Urban League of Greater Dallas follows the national
1010 organization's mission and promotes economic self-reliance,
1111 parity, power, and civil rights; and
1212 WHEREAS, Cheryl Mayo is the executive director of West
1313 Dallas Community Centers, Incorporated, where she oversees the
1414 management and programs for four community-based centers for
1515 at-risk youths; and
1616 WHEREAS, She received a bachelor of science degree in
1717 business management from Fisk University and earned a master of
1818 science degree in public health and healthcare administration
1919 from Meharry Medical College; and
2020 WHEREAS, In addition to her job, Cheryl generously devotes
2121 her time and energy as a mentor to women and girls in the
2222 community; she is active in Girls, Incorporated; Delta Sigma
2323 Theta Sorority, Incorporated; The Links, Incorporated; and the
2424 Dallas Women's Foundation; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
2626 Legislature, hereby commend Cheryl L. Mayo for her many
2727 achievements and her service to her community and extend to her
2828 congratulations on being selected to receive a legacy torch from
2929 the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3131 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
