| 3 | 3 | | join the Urban League of Greater Dallas in recognizing Cheryl L. |

| 4 | 4 | | Mayo, who is receiving a legacy torch from the Urban League on |

| 5 | 5 | | February 26, 2009; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Urban League is the nation's oldest and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Americans and others to enter the economic and social mainstream; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the Urban League of Greater Dallas follows the national |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organization's mission and promotes economic self-reliance, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | parity, power, and civil rights; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Mayo is the executive director of West |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Dallas Community Centers, Incorporated, where she oversees the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | management and programs for four community-based centers for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | at-risk youths; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She received a bachelor of science degree in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | business management from Fisk University and earned a master of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | science degree in public health and healthcare administration |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | from Meharry Medical College; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her job, Cheryl generously devotes |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | her time and energy as a mentor to women and girls in the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community; she is active in Girls, Incorporated; Delta Sigma |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Theta Sorority, Incorporated; The Links, Incorporated; and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Dallas Women's Foundation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Cheryl L. Mayo for her many |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | achievements and her service to her community and extend to her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | congratulations on being selected to receive a legacy torch from |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
