| 3 | 3 | | the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and of the Leadership |

| 4 | 4 | | Nacogdoches Class of 2009 are celebrating Nacogdoches County |

| 5 | 5 | | Days at the State Capitol on February 18 and 19, 2009; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Known for its rich and varied history, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Nacogdoches County is one of the original counties of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Republic of Texas; the region was occupied by Caddo Indians and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Spanish missionaries before the arrival of Anglo-Americans in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the 1820s; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The county seat, Nacogdoches, is the oldest city |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in Texas and received its official designation from the Mexican |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | government in 1779; it was home to the state's first newspaper, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Gaceta de Tejas, and today, the city maintains such significant |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | historic landmarks as the Old Stone Fort, which figured |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | prominently in the quest for Texas' independence; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, known |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | also as "Texas Forest Country," Nacogdoches County boasts a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | fertile forestland, which provides residents with a thriving |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | timber business and a prosperous agribusiness; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, With its natural beauty and charm, Nacogdoches |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | County also lends itself to numerous recreational activities and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | outdoor events; the Sam Rayburn Reservoir and Angelina National |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Forest are both popular sites for camping, hiking, and fishing, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and the annual Texas Blueberry Festival celebrates the county's |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | thriving blueberry industry; the county is also one of the first |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | three Certified Retirement Communities in Texas; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Higher education is an important part of daily |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | life for residents of the City of Nacogdoches, as it is the home |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of Stephen F. Austin State University, a respected institution |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | that supports the local economy and infuses the city with a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | youthful energy and spirit; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Nacogdoches County has played an important role |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | in the history of Texas, and it is appropriate to pay tribute to |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | its residents for their many contributions to the Lone Star |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 18 and 19, 2009, as |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Nacogdoches County Days at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |

| 41 | 41 | | honor of this event. |
