SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 271 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Judge Valencia Nash, who has been named a legacy torch recipient by the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Judge Nash is the first female African American justice of the peace elected in Dallas County; she holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and earned her law degree at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University; and WHEREAS, Judge Nash serves as justice of the peace for precinct 1, place 2, in the southern sector of Dallas; in addition to her many duties as a public official, she volunteers for numerous civic and legal organizations, including the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, which serves the Hurricane Katrina Legal Clinic, the Housing Crisis Center, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center, and the West Dallas Center; and WHEREAS, Judge Nash also volunteers as general counsel on the board of the Humanities and Communications Magnet at Lincoln High School; she hosts the Youth Conflict Resolution annual mock trial summer program and is a member of the board of Mothers Against Teen Violence; she is truly deserving of acknowledgment for her exemplary accomplishments and her many contributions to the Dallas community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Judge Valencia Nash on her many achievements and her dedication to the legal profession and congratulate her on being selected as a legacy torch recipient by the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
