| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Judge Valencia Nash, who has been named a legacy torch |

| 4 | 4 | | recipient by the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Judge Nash is the first female |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | African American justice of the peace elected in Dallas County; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | she holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | earned her law degree at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas Southern University; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Judge Nash serves as justice of the peace for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | precinct 1, place 2, in the southern sector of Dallas; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | addition to her many duties as a public official, she volunteers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for numerous civic and legal organizations, including the Dallas |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Volunteer Attorney Program, which serves the Hurricane Katrina |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Legal Clinic, the Housing Crisis Center, the Martin Luther King, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Jr., Center, and the West Dallas Center; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Judge Nash also volunteers as general counsel on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the board of the Humanities and Communications Magnet at Lincoln |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | High School; she hosts the Youth Conflict Resolution annual mock |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | trial summer program and is a member of the board of Mothers |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Against Teen Violence; she is truly deserving of acknowledgment |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | for her exemplary accomplishments and her many contributions to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Dallas community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Judge Valencia Nash on her many |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | achievements and her dedication to the legal profession and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | congratulate her on being selected as a legacy torch recipient by |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
