| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Urban League of Greater Dallas in paying tribute to Dr. |

| 4 | 4 | | Barbara Cambridge for her outstanding accomplishments and her |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | many contributions to her community and her profession; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cambridge is being recognized as a legacy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | honoree at the annual meeting of the Urban League of Greater |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Dallas on February 26, 2009; the Urban League is the nation's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | empowering African Americans and others to enter the economic and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | social mainstream; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cambridge is a licensed clinical social |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worker, psychotherapist, author, lecturer, and consultant; she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | joined the faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Medical School in 1969 and provides psychosocial support and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | mental health services to low-income women; she was the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | university's first African American female associate professor; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, She is known for her passion, her commitment, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | her leadership in addressing issues that have a negative impact |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | on women and the community; she has been an advocate for women |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | living with HIV and AIDS for more than 20 years; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An active leader in the Dallas and North Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | communities, Dr. Cambridge has been recognized as Social Worker |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of the Year and received numerous awards, including the Maura |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Award, North Texas Planned Parenthood's Gertrude Shelburne |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Humanitarian Award, United Way's Extra Mile Award, the American |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Jewish Congress Women of Spirit Award, and Leadership Dallas' |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Distinguished Alumni Award; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Barbara Cambridge for her |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | service to her community and her many achievements and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | congratulate her on being named a legacy honoree by the Urban |

| 34 | 34 | | League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further |
