| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Aggies and Longhorns will unite today at the State |

| 3 | 3 | | Capitol to celebrate Orange and Maroon Legislative Day 2009 and |

| 4 | 4 | | to promote higher education in the State of Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Alumni from the two schools total over 700,000, |

| 6 | 6 | | and Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | have a combined annual enrollment of more than 95,000 students, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | with over 22,000 students receiving degrees each year; the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | schools boast superb museums and libraries, including the George |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Bush Presidential Library and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and Museum, and both universities are renowned for their |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | exceptional research; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Texas A&M University and The University of Texas |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | at Austin help prepare Texas youth for higher education through |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the universities' six outreach centers located throughout the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | state, and more than 90 percent of the centers' participants have |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | successfully pursued higher education; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The universities' faculties feature Nobel |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | laureates and nationally recognized scholars, and the student |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | bodies include national merit scholars, Olympic gold medalists, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and many of the Lone Star State's most promising young people; in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | addition, the schools offer an amazing range of postgraduate |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | opportunities with nearly 300 graduate degree programs; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Texas A&M University and The University of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | at Austin have established themselves as preeminent institutions |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of higher education on the state, national, and international |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | levels, and Texans are fortunate to have access to these two |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | exceptional state university systems; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 3, 2009, as Orange and Maroon |
