| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Edinburg native Captain Leonel A. Pea, who has the |

| 4 | 4 | | distinction of being the youngest person and the first and only |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Hispanic selected as a conductor for the United States Army Band |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | program; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Captain Pea is one of only 20 commissioned |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | officers authorized for the worldwide United States Army Band |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | program; his latest assignment is as director of the United |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | States Army Soldiers' Chorus and Associate Bandmaster of the Army |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Field Band at Fort Meade, Maryland; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Captain Pea's first assignment in the Army was as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Executive Officer and Associate Conductor of the Army Ground |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Forces Band; he has also served as the Staff Bands Officer for the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | United States Army Forces Command at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Georgia, and as Commander of the Staff and Faculty at the Army |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor of music degree from |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Southwest Texas State University, a master of science degree in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | administration from Central Michigan University, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | certification from the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Pedagogy Institute at the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He has earned numerous awards and commendations |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | during his career in the Army; he has performed as a soloist on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | national television and recorded with the Atlanta Symphony |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Chorus and the Virginia Symphony Chorus, and he is widely |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | recognized for his musical talents and his professionalism; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Service to the American people has been an |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | important part of our nation's military history, and music is an |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | important part of that tradition; as an officer in the Army Band |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | program, Captain Leonel Pea passed a highly selective audition |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and demonstrated superior leadership capabilities, and he is |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | among the finest musicians in the United States; now, therefore, |
|---|

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Captain Leonel A. Pea for his many |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | talents and his exceptional achievements in the United States |

| 38 | 38 | | Army; and, be it further |
