| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his highly successful career in |

| 3 | 3 | | country music, Tracy Byrd has demonstrated an enduring interest |

| 4 | 4 | | in using his celebrity to help others, and he has been especially |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | generous in his efforts to benefit charitable causes in Southeast |

| 6 | 6 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A native of the Beaumont area, Mr. Byrd got his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | start as a performer in the city's music clubs, and his |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | undeniable talent led to a recording contract in 1992; hit |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | singles and best-selling albums soon followed, but even as his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | stature has grown large in the Nashville music industry, he has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | maintained close ties to the Texas communities where he was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | raised; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This caring musician continually sought ways to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | give back to his fellow Texans, and in the late 1990s, he began |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | staging the annual Tracy Byrd Homecoming Weekend in Beaumont; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this popular event includes golf and fishing tournaments as well |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | as a concert, and it has raised more than $1 million to fund |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | children's charities in the area; among the projects |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | underwritten by the proceeds was the creation of a hyperbaric |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | medicine and wound care center at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Beaumont, which has been named in honor of Mr. Byrd; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, he has expanded the event to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | include fellow southeast Texas singers Mark Chesnutt and Zona |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Jones, creating a three-day fund-raiser known as the Beaumont |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Boys Bash; in 2009, the bash will take place October 23 through 25 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and will benefit the Children's Miracle Network, Netcasters |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Youth Ministries, the Garth House, the Boy Scouts, and the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Southeast Texas Humane Society; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Tracy Byrd has distinguished himself as a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | performer and recording artist of great ability who is also |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | dedicated to assisting those in need, and his admirable work is |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | greatly appreciated by the residents of the Golden Triangle area; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby honor Tracy Byrd for his ongoing charitable |

| 37 | 37 | | work in Southeast Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes for |

| 38 | 38 | | success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
