11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 394
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
33 recognizing Dr. Joseph S. Galati for his outstanding work as a
44 physician, clinical researcher, and medical director; and
55 WHEREAS, A native of Long Island, New York, Joseph Galati
66 graduated from Saint George's University School of Medicine and
77 was a resident in internal medicine at State University of New
88 York Health Science Center-Brooklyn and Kings County Hospital
99 Center; he pursued fellowship training in gastroenterology,
1010 hepatology, and transplant medicine at the University of
1111 Nebraska Medical Center; and
1212 WHEREAS, In 1994, Dr. Galati was recruited by The
1313 University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and in 1996, he
1414 became medical director of Transplant Hepatology; in 1999, he was
1515 named medical director of Saint Luke's Texas Liver Institute, and
1616 in 2001, he formed Liver Specialists of Texas, one of America's
1717 largest liver practices; and
1818 WHEREAS, He was appointed medical director of the Center of
1919 Liver Disease and Transplantation at Methodist Hospital in
2020 Houston in 2007; renowned as a clinical researcher, he has
2121 conducted numerous studies in viral hepatitis and other forms of
2222 liver disease; he has collaborated with colleagues in his field
2323 from around the world and is a much-sought-after speaker
2424 nationally and internationally; he is also a founding board
2525 member of the Texas Liver Coalition; and
2626 WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Galati is a leader in his
2727 community, and for the past five years, he has been working with
2828 Clear Channel Radio to create consumer-oriented radio
2929 programming that covers topics of health and wellness; now,
3030 therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3232 Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Joseph S. Galati on his
3333 exceptional career in the field of liver disease and
3434 transplantation and on his many contributions to his profession;
3535 and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 Dr. Galati as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
