| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Patrick Foster of Sachse, who has been named one of the |

| 4 | 4 | | top two youth volunteers in Texas for 2009 by the Prudential |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Spirit of Community Awards program; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | these awards annually to honor young people across the nation for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | outstanding volunteerism and community service; now in its 14th |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | year, the program is the country's largest youth recognition |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | program based solely on volunteer service; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A senior at Sachse High School, Patrick, along |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with his sister Tania, cofounded a nonprofit organization that |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | has raised nearly $300,000 in merchandise and cash donations to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | support American troops serving overseas; their organization has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | joined forces with the United States Department of Defense's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | "America Supports You" network and has distributed its largesse |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to more than 20,000 troops on 43 military bases; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The success and vitality of our communities, our |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | state, and our American society depend in great measure upon the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | dedication of young people like Patrick, who use their time and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | talents to serve others; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Patrick has shown by his example that he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | personifies the true spirit of giving to the community; he is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | truly deserving of recognition for receiving this prestigious |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Patrick Foster for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | his recognition as one of our state's top youth volunteers and |
