4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville is home to the world-famous King |

5 | 5 | | Ranch, which developed the Santa Gertrudis and Quarter Horse |

6 | 6 | | breeds, produced the Triple Crown winner Assault, and has been a |

7 | 7 | | world leader in agriculture for over 150 years; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville is home to Texas A&M |
---|
9 | 9 | | University--Kingsville and its world renowned Frank H. |
---|
10 | 10 | | Dotterweich College of Engineering, Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg |
---|
11 | 11 | | College of Agriculture, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research |
---|
12 | 12 | | Institute, and Irma Rangel College of Pharmacy; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The city is also known for producing the Star Ruby |

14 | 14 | | red grapefruit and its university has won seven National College |

15 | 15 | | Football Championships and has been the flagship of higher |
---|
16 | 16 | | education in South Texas since 1925; and |

17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville is home to the nation's premier |

18 | 18 | | undergraduate pilot training facility, Naval Air Station |
---|
19 | 19 | | Kingsville, which trains pilots in the United States Navy and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Marine Corps; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville has volunteered its sons and daughters |

22 | 22 | | in defense of our nation through every major conflict in the past |

23 | 23 | | 100 years, including native son General Dickie Cavazos, the first |
---|
24 | 24 | | person of Mexican-American descent to become a four star general |
---|
25 | 25 | | in the United States Army; and |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville today is a thriving community with |

27 | 27 | | diversified industries powered by multiple energy sources, |
---|
28 | 28 | | including oil and gas, uranium, and wind and solar power; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville's economy has continued to grow, |
---|
30 | 30 | | creating new jobs, increased construction, an expanded tax base, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and improved quality of life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby declare March 11, 2009, to be Kingsville Day |
---|
34 | 34 | | and urge all citizens of this state to join in recognizing the |
---|
35 | 35 | | countless contributions that the City of Kingsville and Kleberg |
---|
36 | 36 | | and Kenedy Counties have made to the growth and development of |
---|
37 | 37 | | the region, the state, and the country; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |

39 | 39 | | honor of this special day. |
