                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 435
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Boys and Girls Clubs of Champion Valley on the
 occasion of Boys and Girls Club Week in Fayette and Colorado
 Counties, which is being celebrated March 22 through March 28,
 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Young people are one of the most important
 resources in our communities, for they represent the future of
 our state; it is important that they have positive role models
 and guidance as they grow up to become the leaders of tomorrow;
 and
 WHEREAS, Many young people need professional youth
 services to help them cope with a wide range of social and
 financial hardships; the Boys and Girls Clubs in Texas help these
 youths keep out of trouble by offering them a safe and supportive
 place to go and providing a number of quality programs; and
 WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs provide educational
 assistance through the Power Hour homework program; other
 services help youths in developing character and leadership,
 discovering needs, setting goals, and realizing their full
 potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens; and
 WHEREAS, More than 750 young people in Schulenburg and
 Weimar benefit from the services provided by the Boys and Girls
 Clubs of Champion Valley each year; and
 WHEREAS, Members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Champion
 Valley will join 4.6 million youths in more than 4,000 clubs
 across the country in celebrating National Boys and Girls Club
 Week during the week of March 22 through March 28, 2009; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby proclaim the week of March 22 through March
 28, 2009, as Boys and Girls Club Week in Fayette and Colorado
 Counties and extend best wishes to the members, staff, and
 volunteers of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Champion Valley for an
 enjoyable celebration; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the clubs in honor of this special occasion.
