| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Grand Saline in mourning the loss of Johnny Freelen, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who died March 6, 2008, at the age of 74; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Johnny Freelen was born July 4, 1933, in Lamar |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | County; he served in the armed forces during the Korean War and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | had a successful career with General Motors in Arlington; he was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | serving as a foreman in the company at the time of his retirement; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, he was a well-known |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | leader in his community and was respected for his many |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | accomplishments; a 32nd-degree Mason, he was a Golden Trowel |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | recipient and a past grand master; he organized and managed the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Challenger League sports program in Grand Saline, and he was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | named Grand Saline Man of the Year in recognition of his many |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | contributions to the city; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | was a devout Christian and a member of Corinth Baptist Church; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Johnny Freelen was a devoted husband, father, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | family of Johnny Freelen: his wife of 49 years, Johnnie Vay; his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | sons, Rusty and Randy; his daughter, Rhonda Grandon; his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | brothers, George, Frankie, Danny, and Jimmy; his sisters, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Shirley Murdock, Ollie Watkins, Kay Rowland, and Judy Simpson; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and his nine grandchildren; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 34 | 34 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
