11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 468
22 WHEREAS, Texas AFL-CIO President Becky Moeller has been
33 elected president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO by the
44 South Central AFL-CIO Council; and
55 WHEREAS, In addition to overseeing 13 southern states in
66 her new position, Ms. Moeller becomes a member of the national
77 AFL-CIO General Board, a body that advises the governing national
88 AFL-CIO Executive Council; and
99 WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller's involvement in the labor movement
1010 dates back to 1967, when she joined Communications Workers of
1111 America Local 6137 in Corpus Christi as an employee of
1212 Southwestern Bell; she went on to serve the group in a variety of
1313 roles, including job steward, chief steward, executive board
1414 member, vice president, secretary-treasurer, and president; and
1515 WHEREAS, At the state level, Ms. Moeller has been a member
1616 of the Texas AFL-CIO executive board and chair of the scholarship
1717 committee; in 2003, she became the first woman to hold statewide
1818 office in the organization when she was elected
1919 secretary-treasurer; and
2020 WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Ann Richards to serve as
2121 chair of the commission overseeing the Texas Department of
2222 Licensing and Regulation, she has also worked to benefit her
2323 fellow citizens as a member of the United Way Board of Governors
2424 and the Coastal Bend Workforce Development Board; and
2525 WHEREAS, Becky Moeller has helped countless individuals to
2626 achieve greater security and hope for a brighter future, and her
2727 election to this important office is confirmation of her
2828 outstanding leadership skills and effective advocacy on behalf
2929 of working families; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3131 Legislature, hereby congratulate Becky Moeller on her election
3232 as president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO and extend to
3333 her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important
3434 work; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3636 prepared for Ms. Moeller as an expression of high regard from the
3737 Texas Senate.
