| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jesse A. Benavides on the occasion of his retirement |

| 4 | 4 | | after 29 years of running Benavides Drive Inn; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Benavides Drive Inn, also known as J.B.'s, is |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | located on Drennan Street in Houston's Second Ward; J.B. grew up |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in the Second Ward and returned to the area after living in the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Denver Harbor community for 30 years; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since opening Benavides Drive Inn on June 1, 1980, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | J.B. has been closely involved in his community; he has helped |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | many families in times of hardship or misfortune by holding |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | fund-raisers and by donating his time and resources; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He has been actively involved with Navidad En El |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Barrio and Los Vaqueros Trail Riders, opening his establishment |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to them for meetings and fund-raising events, and he has helped |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Blessed Sacrament Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | their annual bazaars; he has been a longtime sponsor of Little |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | League baseball teams and has frequently assisted police |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | organizations with benefits; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, J.B. proudly served his country in the United |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | States Marine Corps for four years, and it gives him particular |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | pleasure to welcome all his fellow Marines to his establishment |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | on November 10 in celebration of the Marine Corps' birthday; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, J.B. has earned the admiration and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | respect of all who have had the fortune of knowing him; he has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | become a veritable institution in the Second Ward, and his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | familiar presence as the proprietor of Benavides Drive Inn will |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Jesse A. Benavides for providing 29 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | years of warm hospitality and support to his community as the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | operator of Benavides Drive Inn and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the future; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 35 | 35 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
