                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 504
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Rotary District 5870 for its participation in Rotary
 National Literacy Month; and
 WHEREAS, To emphasize the importance of books and reading
 in the lives of our nation's children, the Rotary Clubs of Rotary
 District 5870 are planning a variety of literacy activities
 during the week of March 23 through 29; and
 WHEREAS, The activities and projects planned reflect the
 Rotary International theme for this year, "Making Dreams Real for
 our Children"; the week's projects will culminate with the
 designation of March 28 as Drop Everything and Read Day; and
 WHEREAS, The literacy programs designed by Rotary Clubs
 throughout the Central Texas area for this week include setting
 up a teen library, providing children's books for clinic waiting
 rooms, collecting books for elementary schools, participating in
 a Read-In at Zilker Park, and collecting and distributing books
 to children at a town square event; and
 WHEREAS, Rotary National Literacy Month is celebrated in
 March each year and is an excellent opportunity for the clubs to
 raise public awareness about the importance of literacy and
 education in our communities; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Rotary District 5870 on its active
 participation in Rotary National Literacy Month and declare
 March 28 Drop Everything and Read Day; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of Rotary District 5870 and Rotary National Literacy Month.
