| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in |

| 3 | 3 | | recognizing Dr. Luis H. Urrea II, who is serving as the 2009 |

| 4 | 4 | | president of the El Paso County Medical Society; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso County Medical Society serves as an |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | advocate for local physicians regarding legislative issues and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fosters good relations between area physicians and the El Paso |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | County communities; the society was organized in 1898 and today |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | consists of 500 active members; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Urrea is a highly respected El Paso physician |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | who has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Surgery since 1998; he graduated from The University of Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Southwestern Medical School, where he also completed his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | residency in orthopaedic surgery; he earned a fellowship in knee |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and shoulder surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Clinic in Vail, Colorado; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the El Paso community and to his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | profession, Dr. Urrea provides first-rate orthopaedic health |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | care for area residents; he is a clinical assistant professor at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | serves as a team physician for the Athletics Department at The |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | University of Texas at El Paso and the football programs of the El |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Paso, Ysleta, Socorro, and Clint Independent School Districts; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, He has given numerous presentations on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | orthopaedic surgery and is the coauthor of a number of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | publications and research articles; his work on knee and shoulder |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | reconstruction is extensive and has contributed greatly to the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | field of sports medicine; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Urrea has held leadership positions on the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Medical Executive Committee of El Paso Specialty Hospital and on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the Executive Board Committee of the El Paso Orthopaedic Surgery |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Group, and he founded and serves as director of the Free Saturday |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Morning Acute Injury Sports Medicine Clinic; he has truly |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | distinguished himself in his profession, and he is an esteemed |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | leader in his community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Luis H. Urrea II on his |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | outstanding work and accomplishments in orthopaedic surgery and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | congratulate him on his selection as the 2009 president of the El |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Paso County Medical Society; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
