1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 508
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the Alpha Chi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society
4	4	International on the splendid occasion of its 75th anniversary;
5	5	and
6	6	WHEREAS, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was
7	7	founded by Annie Webb Blanton, a professor of education at The
8	8	University of Texas, on May 11, 1929, and it has grown to 115,000
9	9	members in chapters located in 16 countries around the world; the
10	10	society honors women educators who have made exceptional
11	11	contributions in the field of education and promotes
12	12	professional and personal growth; and
13	13	WHEREAS, The Alpha Chi Chapter, also established by Dr.
14	14	Blanton, was chartered on March 10, 1934, with 12 founding
15	15	members, women educators from Burnet, Llano, San Saba, and
16	16	Lampasas Counties; the women of San Saba and Lampasas Counties
17	17	formed a separate chapter in 1964; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Following the principles set forth by the Delta
19	19	Kappa Gamma Society International, the Alpha Chi Chapter works to
20	20	enhance opportunities for women in education and celebrates
21	21	their achievements; it initiates and supports legislation that
22	22	furthers the interests of the field of education and of women
23	23	educators, keeps members informed about important issues, and
24	24	offers enrichment opportunities; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Membership in the Alpha Chi Chapter is both an
26	26	honor and a responsibility; members provide many hours of service
27	27	and contribute to worthy causes; they have established a
28	28	scholarship and have provided 55 grants to future teachers in
29	29	Marble Falls, Burnet, and Llano; the members of the Alpha Chi
30	30	Chapter are outstanding leaders and excellent role models in
31	31	their communities; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
33	33	Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Alpha Chi Chapter
34	34	of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for their
35	35	commitment to education and to their communities and extend to
36	36	them best wishes for a wonderful 75th anniversary celebration;
37	37	and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
39	39	expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
