1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 510
2	2	WHEREAS, The members of the Texas Senate take much pride in
3	3	recognizing Lieutenant Governor David H. Dewhurst, whose lengthy
4	4	list of accomplishments now includes the honor of induction into
5	5	the prestigious Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Best known for his work as a longtime public
7	7	servant and for his leadership as president of the Texas Senate,
8	8	David Dewhurst has a history of success in an altogether
9	9	different arena, and he is now being recognized for his
10	10	exceptional accomplishments as a veteran rodeo cowboy and for his
11	11	contributions to the ranching industry in Texas; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Governor Dewhurst is being honored at the Texas
13	13	Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame's 34th Annual Induction Ceremony, where
14	14	he is to receive the 2009 Western Heritage Award; founded in
15	15	1975, the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame honors those who
16	16	exemplify the independent spirit of the rodeo cowboy and who
17	17	enhance the positive image of rodeo and the American West; and
18	18	WHEREAS, An impressive competitor who has met the hall of
19	19	fame's highest standards and who has shown leadership in all
20	20	facets of his life, Governor Dewhurst has distinguished himself
21	21	in rodeo as a team roper and as an internationally ranked
22	22	participant in cutting-horse events sanctioned by the National
23	23	Cutting Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse
24	24	Association; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Governor Dewhurst is a statesman and a highly
26	26	regarded public servant who is noted for his diverse talents and
27	27	interests; his storied career includes service in the Central
28	28	Intelligence Agency and the United States Department of State; he
29	29	is a successful businessman who entered the political world when
30	30	he was elected Texas land commissioner in 1998; he currently
31	31	raises Black Angus cattle on his ranches and serves as an
32	32	honorary vice president of the American Quarter Horse
33	33	Association; now, therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
35	35	Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Lieutenant Governor
36	36	David H. Dewhurst for his insightful and effective leadership and
37	37	extend congratulations to him on his achievements in the world of
38	38	rodeo and on his induction into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of
39	39	Fame; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
41	41	the Honorable David Dewhurst as a tribute to his latest
42	42	accomplishment from his colleagues in the Texas Senate.
