| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Brazos Bend State Park Volunteer Organization |

| 3 | 3 | | is marking its 20th anniversary in 2009; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, A group of dedicated men and women joined together |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | to form the Brazos Bend State Park Volunteer Organization in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1989, recognizing the significant contributions they could |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | collectively make to their local state park; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Since that time, the site has benefited from its |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | nonprofit partner's status through the revenue generated by the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Nature Center Gift Shop, grants, and other donations, sources |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | that generated more than $450,000 in 2008 alone; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Brazos Bend State Park Volunteer Organization |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | provided nearly 20,000 hours of invaluable service last year; in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | addition to staffing the Nature Center, members attended intensive |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | semiannual training and provided interpretive programming, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | conducted outreach events, and hosted on-site special events; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The experience of park visitors has also been |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | greatly enhanced by volunteer efforts to maintain the facility |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and trails, manage resources, and control vegetation; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For its exceptional work, the Brazos Bend State Park |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Volunteer Organization was honored with the 2000 Texas Parks and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Wildlife Department's Lone Star Legends "Partnership" Award; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | citizens of the Lone Star State are fortunate to have such a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | dedicated group of individuals to serve as stewards and advocates |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for their chosen state park; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend all those associated with the Brazos Bend |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | State Park Volunteer Organization for the many contributions the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | organization has made to the park and extend to them congratulations |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | on their 20th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
