| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Chosen Vessel Cathedral in Fort |

| 3 | 3 | | Worth are joining together on April 5, 2009, to celebrate the |

| 4 | 4 | | dedication of the new Community Life and Learning Center; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Guided by the missionary efforts of Annie |

| 6 | 6 | | Gillispy, Chosen Vessel Cathedral was established in 1920; the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | first Afro-American apostolic church in Fort Worth, it has been |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | blessed with many compassionate and able leaders through the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | years, including Bishop William North and Elders Frank Coats, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | John Sanders, William Thompson, William Foree, and Thomas Jones; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | today, that tradition of service continues with the inspired |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | teachings of the church's senior pastor, Bishop Richard E. Young; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Through regular worship services, outreach |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | efforts, and the development of special programs, the church |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | strives to serve members of all ages as well as the greater |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In an effort to better meet that goal, Chosen |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Vessel Cathedral has established the new Community Life and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Learning Center; containing a basketball and volleyball court, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | bowling alley, fitness center, sports cafe, and several |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | classrooms, this notable facility will also be the new home for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Southwest Community Economic Development Corporation, a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | nonprofit organization founded by Bishop Young in 2002; in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | addition, the center will help to bolster efforts to assist youth |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and community outreach by providing space for additional |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | government-funded programming, including Project F.A.M.I.L.Y. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and a mentorship program for children of incarcerated parents; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Sustained by a common purpose and warm |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | fellowship, the congregants of Chosen Vessel Cathedral have |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | remained steadfast in their dedication to their church and in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | their ministry to the world around them, and it is a pleasure to |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | join in commemorating this special event; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby warmly congratulate all those associated |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | with Chosen Vessel Cathedral on the dedication of the new |

| 38 | 38 | | Community Life and Learning Center and extend to them sincere |
