1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 55
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the musical group The Picks, who were inducted into the
4	4	New Mexico Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 2007; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Comprised of Bob Lapham, John Pickering, and the
6	6	late Bill Pickering, The Picks were given this prestigious honor
7	7	for their work in the summer of 1957 with Buddy Holly and The
8	8	Crickets and for their recordings for Columbia Records and with a
9	9	variety of other artists; and
10	10	WHEREAS, The Picks performed on nine of the 12 songs on the
11	11	Buddy Holly and The Crickets album The Chirping Crickets, which
12	12	was the result of those 1957 sessions; the daily radio shows and
13	13	personal appearances of the Pickering Family Quartet throughout
14	14	the 1940s and 1950s also played a role in their selection for this
15	15	honor; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Through their work with Texas and rock and roll
17	17	icons Buddy Holly and The Crickets, and their radio and other
18	18	recording work, The Picks have made important contributions to
19	19	the rich cultural heritage of our state, and they are truly
20	20	deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it
21	21	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
22	22	Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to The Picks on their
23	23	induction into the New Mexico Music Hall of Fame and Museum; and,
24	24	be it further
25	25	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
26	26	them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
