SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 583 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Chief Don Garcia of the La Feria Police Department for 20 years of outstanding service to his community; and WHEREAS, Chief Garcia began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer for the Raymondville Police Department following his graduation from the Police Academy in Harlingen in 1980; he joined the La Feria Police Department in 1989, and he has worked his way through the ranks to earn his position as chief of police; and WHEREAS, During his tenure with the La Feria Police Department, Chief Garcia has seen the department grow from a small, part-time force with only four officers sharing quarters with the La Feria Fire Department to a modern, fulltime police department with more than a dozen officers and the latest in technical equipment; and WHEREAS, Chief Garcia played an important role in initiating a Community Outreach Program to help young people avoid criminal activity; the department has also developed Community Crime Watch Programs so that citizens can report suspicious activities; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to public service, Chief Garcia is respected and admired by his colleagues and by the citizens of La Feria; he is truly deserving of recognition for his service and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Chief Don Garcia on his devotion to duty and his able stewardship of the La Feria Police Department and extend to him best wishes for continued success as chief of police; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
