1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 589
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Samantha Cipriano on the occasion of the statewide
4	4	commemoration of the Month of the Military Child, which is being
5	5	celebrated in April, 2009; and
6	6	WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Texas Senate
7	7	Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations
8	8	sponsored an Art and Poetry Contest for children whose parents
9	9	are current or recent members of the military forces; Samantha
10	10	was selected a winner in the poetry contest; she is an 11th-grade
11	11	student at Robert M. Shoemaker High School in Fort Hood, and her
12	12	poetry will remain on display at the State Capitol throughout the
13	13	legislative session; and
14	14	WHEREAS, The Month of the Military Child was established in
15	15	1986 to honor the importance of the children whose parents serve
16	16	our nation in the armed forces; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Military children face unique challenges as they
18	18	grow up in a military family; over the course of a military career
19	19	the average family moves nine times, forcing a young person to
20	20	change schools and say goodbye to friends and familiar faces, and
21	21	long overseas deployments also present special difficulties for
22	22	children and parents; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Samantha has faced these challenges with courage
24	24	and composure, providing her parents with steadfast support as
25	25	they fulfill their duty in service to our nation; her resilience
26	26	and self-confidence are truly deserving of recognition as we
27	27	celebrate the Month of the Military Child; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
29	29	Legislature, hereby commend Samantha Cipriano on her important
30	30	role in maintaining the morale of our armed forces while meeting
31	31	the unique challenges of the military way of life; and, be it
32	32	further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
