                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 611
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Victor Garza on his leadership in the San Benito
 community and his distinguished service to the San Benito City
 Commission; and
 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Benito, Victor Garza
 has consistently demonstrated a spirit of public service,
 exemplified in his current tenure as a member of the San Benito
 City Commission and his service as mayor pro tempore; and
 WHEREAS, Victor served in the United States Army from 1976
 to 1980 as a military policeman and police dog handler; he is
 married to Blanca E. Garza and is the father of six children; he
 is a graduate of The University of Texas at Brownsville; and
 WHEREAS, He is an active member of Saint Benedict Catholic
 Church, where he has served as a Finance and Renovation Committee
 member and as sports director and softball coach; his extensive
 community involvement includes membership in the San Benito
 Lions Club, the chamber of commerce, and the Challenger Learning
 Center of the Rio Grande Valley Marketing Committee; and
 WHEREAS, He has served as chairman of the Texas Lions Camp
 Committee, the San Benito Industrial Development Authority, the
 Parks and Recreation Board, and the San Benito Veterans Advisory
 Board; he is a founding member of the city's Fourth of July
 celebration committee; and
 WHEREAS, Victor was named the 1998-1999 Lion of the Year
 and earned the title of Citizen of the Year in 2003; he served as
 grand marshal of the 2003 San Benito Christmas Parade and was
 named an Elks Distinguished Citizen in 2007 by the San Benito
 Elks Lodge; he was elected to the San Benito City Commission in
 2006 and is retiring from that position after serving with
 distinction for three years; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Victor Garza on his outstanding
 community leadership and his significant contributions to the
 City of San Benito as a city commissioner and as a valued member
 of numerous city committees and civic organizations; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Victor Garza as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
