11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 611
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Victor Garza on his leadership in the San Benito
44 community and his distinguished service to the San Benito City
55 Commission; and
66 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Benito, Victor Garza
77 has consistently demonstrated a spirit of public service,
88 exemplified in his current tenure as a member of the San Benito
99 City Commission and his service as mayor pro tempore; and
1010 WHEREAS, Victor served in the United States Army from 1976
1111 to 1980 as a military policeman and police dog handler; he is
1212 married to Blanca E. Garza and is the father of six children; he
1313 is a graduate of The University of Texas at Brownsville; and
1414 WHEREAS, He is an active member of Saint Benedict Catholic
1515 Church, where he has served as a Finance and Renovation Committee
1616 member and as sports director and softball coach; his extensive
1717 community involvement includes membership in the San Benito
1818 Lions Club, the chamber of commerce, and the Challenger Learning
1919 Center of the Rio Grande Valley Marketing Committee; and
2020 WHEREAS, He has served as chairman of the Texas Lions Camp
2121 Committee, the San Benito Industrial Development Authority, the
2222 Parks and Recreation Board, and the San Benito Veterans Advisory
2323 Board; he is a founding member of the city's Fourth of July
2424 celebration committee; and
2525 WHEREAS, Victor was named the 1998-1999 Lion of the Year
2626 and earned the title of Citizen of the Year in 2003; he served as
2727 grand marshal of the 2003 San Benito Christmas Parade and was
2828 named an Elks Distinguished Citizen in 2007 by the San Benito
2929 Elks Lodge; he was elected to the San Benito City Commission in
3030 2006 and is retiring from that position after serving with
3131 distinction for three years; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3333 Legislature, hereby commend Victor Garza on his outstanding
3434 community leadership and his significant contributions to the
3535 City of San Benito as a city commissioner and as a valued member
3636 of numerous city committees and civic organizations; and, be it
3737 further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 Victor Garza as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
