| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Victor Garza on his leadership in the San Benito |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | community and his distinguished service to the San Benito City |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Commission; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Benito, Victor Garza |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | has consistently demonstrated a spirit of public service, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | exemplified in his current tenure as a member of the San Benito |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | City Commission and his service as mayor pro tempore; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Victor served in the United States Army from 1976 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to 1980 as a military policeman and police dog handler; he is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | married to Blanca E. Garza and is the father of six children; he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | is a graduate of The University of Texas at Brownsville; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, He is an active member of Saint Benedict Catholic |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Church, where he has served as a Finance and Renovation Committee |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | member and as sports director and softball coach; his extensive |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community involvement includes membership in the San Benito |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Lions Club, the chamber of commerce, and the Challenger Learning |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Center of the Rio Grande Valley Marketing Committee; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, He has served as chairman of the Texas Lions Camp |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Committee, the San Benito Industrial Development Authority, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Parks and Recreation Board, and the San Benito Veterans Advisory |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Board; he is a founding member of the city's Fourth of July |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | celebration committee; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Victor was named the 1998-1999 Lion of the Year |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and earned the title of Citizen of the Year in 2003; he served as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | grand marshal of the 2003 San Benito Christmas Parade and was |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | named an Elks Distinguished Citizen in 2007 by the San Benito |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Elks Lodge; he was elected to the San Benito City Commission in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2006 and is retiring from that position after serving with |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | distinction for three years; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend Victor Garza on his outstanding |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | community leadership and his significant contributions to the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | City of San Benito as a city commissioner and as a valued member |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of numerous city committees and civic organizations; and, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | further |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 39 | 39 | | Victor Garza as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
