                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 613
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Aurora De La Garza, who has been selected for the
 prestigious Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of
 America; and
 WHEREAS, The Distinguished Citizen Award is given to an
 individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a
 volunteer in the community; and
 WHEREAS, Aurora De La Garza has served as district clerk of
 Cameron County since 1980; during her tenure in office, she has
 initiated many new systems and programs to better serve the
 county's citizens, including centralized records management and
 the creation of an automated voice response system to prequalify
 jurors; and
 WHEREAS, Aurora proposed a jury donation plan to area
 legislators, and the plan was enacted into law by the Texas
 Legislature; she has also been named the District Clerk of the
 Year for the State of Texas by the County and District Clerks'
 Association of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Aurora is dedicated to supporting the educational
 system and has served as Principal for a Day at numerous schools
 throughout the area; she has also served as Parent Teacher
 Association president at several schools; and
 WHEREAS, Aurora has given generously of her time and
 talents to the people of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and she has
 been an exceptional advocate for the Boy Scouts of America; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Aurora De La Garza for her
 outstanding service to her community and extend congratulations
 to her on her selection for the Distinguished Citizen Award by
 the Boy Scouts of America; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
