44 Robert Ellis Guice
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Robert Ellis Guice,
77 who died April 2, 2009, at the age of 52; and
88 WHEREAS, Robert Ellis Guice was born in Dallas on February
99 3, 1957; he was an exemplary citizen, respected in his Highland
1010 Hills community for his many achievements and his dedicated work
1111 with young people; and
1212 WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mr. Guice was an active
1313 volunteer for the Dallas Independent School District, working
1414 with at-risk students at Madison, Lincoln, and A. Maceo Smith
1515 High Schools; he also served as president of the Parent Teacher
1616 Association at J. N. Ervin Elementary School; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Guice shared his love of history and public
1818 service with the community by arranging student trips to
1919 Washington, D.C., to observe government in action and to
2020 experience in person such historic events as the funerals of Rosa
2121 Parks and Coretta Scott King and the inauguration of President
2222 Barack Obama; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Guice served as executive director of the
2424 nonprofit organization Hope Crime Watch, and he also played an
2525 important role in many campaigns for local and national
2626 candidates; and
2727 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
2828 daily life, Mr. Guice was a faithful member of Bon Air Baptist
2929 Church; and
3030 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
3131 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
3232 counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
3333 WHEREAS, Mr. Guice was devoted to his large extended
3434 family, and he will long be remembered for his generous spirit
3535 and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3737 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3838 family of Robert Ellis Guice: his sisters, Farrie Ratcliff,
3939 Carolyn Guice, and Shirley Brown; his brothers, George Hall,
4040 Vastine Guice, Ledell Moss, and Leonard Jordon; and his many
4141 nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4343 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4444 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4545 memory of Robert Ellis Guice.
