5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Robert Ellis Guice, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died April 2, 2009, at the age of 52; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Ellis Guice was born in Dallas on February |
---|
9 | 9 | | 3, 1957; he was an exemplary citizen, respected in his Highland |
---|
10 | 10 | | Hills community for his many achievements and his dedicated work |
---|
11 | 11 | | with young people; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mr. Guice was an active |
---|
13 | 13 | | volunteer for the Dallas Independent School District, working |
---|
14 | 14 | | with at-risk students at Madison, Lincoln, and A. Maceo Smith |
---|
15 | 15 | | High Schools; he also served as president of the Parent Teacher |
---|
16 | 16 | | Association at J. N. Ervin Elementary School; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Guice shared his love of history and public |
---|
18 | 18 | | service with the community by arranging student trips to |
---|
19 | 19 | | Washington, D.C., to observe government in action and to |
---|
20 | 20 | | experience in person such historic events as the funerals of Rosa |
---|
21 | 21 | | Parks and Coretta Scott King and the inauguration of President |
---|
22 | 22 | | Barack Obama; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Guice served as executive director of the |
---|
24 | 24 | | nonprofit organization Hope Crime Watch, and he also played an |
---|
25 | 25 | | important role in many campaigns for local and national |
---|
26 | 26 | | candidates; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his |
---|
28 | 28 | | daily life, Mr. Guice was a faithful member of Bon Air Baptist |
---|
29 | 29 | | Church; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
---|
31 | 31 | | gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
32 | 32 | | counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Guice was devoted to his large extended |
---|
34 | 34 | | family, and he will long be remembered for his generous spirit |
---|
35 | 35 | | and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
38 | 38 | | family of Robert Ellis Guice: his sisters, Farrie Ratcliff, |
---|
39 | 39 | | Carolyn Guice, and Shirley Brown; his brothers, George Hall, |
---|
40 | 40 | | Vastine Guice, Ledell Moss, and Leonard Jordon; and his many |
---|
41 | 41 | | nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives; and, be it further |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

43 | 43 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

44 | 44 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
