4	4	Damion Jon Hobbs
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Damion Jon Hobbs of
7	7	the Houston Fire Department, who died while serving in the line
8	8	of duty on April 12, 2009, at the age of 30; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Damion Hobbs was born December 24, 1978, in Alvin;
10	10	he was raised in Alvin and was a 1998 graduate of Alvin High
11	11	School; he fulfilled his lifelong ambition when he graduated from
12	12	the Houston Fire Department's Val Jahnke Training Facility and
13	13	became a firefighter at Fire Station 26 in southeast Houston; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Mr. Hobbs served the nation for a decade in the
15	15	United States Army, where he had risen to the rank of staff
16	16	sergeant, and he completed a 14-month deployment in Iraq in July
17	17	of 2007; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The life of a firefighter is one of courage and
19	19	sacrifice that requires a deep commitment from the men and women
20	20	that accept this calling; Mr. Hobbs possessed these qualities in
21	21	outsize quantities, exhibiting a strong sense of duty and never
22	22	backing away from danger; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Mr. Hobbs was dedicated to his work, and he
24	24	willingly placed his life on the line to protect the lives of
25	25	others; he gave his life in the performance of his duties, and he
26	26	will posthumously receive the Medal of Honor from the Houston
27	27	Fire Department and the Medal of Honor from the International
28	28	Association of Fire Fighters; and
29	29	WHEREAS, A remarkable man of strength and determination,
30	30	his valor will be long remembered, and his family and many
31	31	friends will continue to live with the cherished memories of his
32	32	life and his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
34	34	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Damion Jon Hobbs
35	35	and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family: his
36	36	father, Jon Hobbs; his mother, Joyce Webb; his sisters, Janice
37	37	DeShazer and Tammy and Shiela Hobbs; his stepsister, Danielle
38	38	Moon; his stepbrother, Levi Webb; and his grandmother, Ruth
39	39	Johnson; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
41	41	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
42	42	Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
43	43	memory of Damion Jon Hobbs.
