5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Houston and Pasadena in mourning the loss of Captain |
---|
7 | 7 | | James Arthur Harlow, Sr., who died April 12, 2009, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 49; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, James Harlow was born May 18, 1959; a 30-year |
---|
10 | 10 | | veteran of the Houston Fire Department, James had joined the |
---|
11 | 11 | | department in 1979; he was named captain at Fire Station 26 in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Southeast Houston in 2004; he died a hero while serving in the |
---|
13 | 13 | | line of duty fighting a fire inside a blazing home; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A man of high principles and strong character, |
---|
15 | 15 | | Captain Harlow consistently displayed courage and firm resolve |
---|
16 | 16 | | in both his professional and personal life; he was caring and |
---|
17 | 17 | | supportive of his crew members and was known for his reassuring |
---|
18 | 18 | | motto, "Everything is going to be all right"; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In honor of his exceptional dedication and |
---|
20 | 20 | | bravery as a firefighter, Captain Harlow will be awarded |
---|
21 | 21 | | posthumously the Medal of Honor from the Houston Fire Department |
---|
22 | 22 | | and the Medal of Honor from the International Association of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Firefighters; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who was highly respected |
---|
25 | 25 | | in his community, Captain Harlow was a devoted family man; he was |
---|
26 | 26 | | also an avid outdoorsman who loved sports of all kinds and |
---|
27 | 27 | | enjoyed hunting and fishing; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Known for his selflessness and generosity, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Captain Harlow willingly confronted danger to protect others, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and he had the admiration of all who knew him; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, James Harlow was beloved by his family, fellow |
---|
32 | 32 | | firefighters, and many friends, and he leaves behind memories |
---|
33 | 33 | | that will be deeply treasured by all who were privileged to share |
---|
34 | 34 | | in his life; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |

37 | 37 | | family of James Arthur Harlow, Sr.: his wife of 29 years, Debbie |

38 | 38 | | Harlow; his daughter and son-in-law, Brandy Rooth and Ron; his |
