| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Jerry Bawcom for his outstanding service as |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | president of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for almost two |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, During Jerry Bawcom's tenure as president, the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has made outstanding progress; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the university has experienced a large increase in student |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | enrollment and has added degree offerings such as a master of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | science in nursing degree and a doctor of education degree; the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | endowment has more than quadrupled, while the athletic program |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has been expanded to include a football program and women's |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | soccer; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The campus has grown from 100 acres to more than |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 250 acres, several new facilities have been added, and the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | physical plant has been expanded; the football team and women's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | soccer team have competed for and won several national |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | championships; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, An outstanding leader for the University of Mary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Hardin-Baylor, Jerry Bawcom has ensured the fiscal soundness of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the university and demonstrated his support for the faculty, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students, and the community; upon the conclusion of his tenure as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | president in May of 2009, he will assume the position of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | chancellor for the university; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Jerry Bawcom for his valuable |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | contributions to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and to the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | educational system of this state and extend to him best wishes in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | his new role as chancellor; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
