| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Harris County and Texans across the state in |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating April 16, 2009, as East End Chamber Day at the State |

| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The City of Houston and Harris County can trace |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | their beginnings to the East End and the area now known as "Old |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Harrisburg"; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The East End is home to the Port of Houston, the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | nation's leading port and one of the largest ports in the world; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting the economic vitality of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the area, the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce played an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | important role in formulating a strategic vision plan for the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | region; this ambitious blueprint emphasizes education, economic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | development, infrastructure, image, parks and neighborhoods, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | history as key factors in ensuring prosperity; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The chamber has been successful in working to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | implement these priorities, supporting the creation of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | National Engineering Academy at Chavez High School and the Port |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of Houston Maritime Academy at Austin and Yates High Schools and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | promoting the establishment of an economic development division |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to retain and attract businesses; it is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | recognition for its outstanding efforts on behalf of this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | historic area; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Houston East End Chamber of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Commerce on its many contributions to the well-being of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | region and extend best wishes for a memorable East End Chamber |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
