| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Texas musicians across the state and recognize April |

| 4 | 4 | | 26, 2009, as Texas Music Awards Day in Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The annual Texas Music Awards is the outgrowth of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a website that began in 2000 to help Texas artists sell their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | music online; the online retail site grew rapidly and soon |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | included hundreds of members; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The first music awards were presented in 2003; in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 2005 the Academy of Texas Music, Incorporated, was formed to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | oversee the awards program and to offer membership to all Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | artists; the academy is a nonprofit organization whose mission is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | artist recognition, education, scholarship, and the assistance |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of artists in need; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The academy promotes worldwide recognition and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | perpetuation of Texas music and the musicians of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | State; it provides and enhances music education through various |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | venues and scholarships and promotes professional equity; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Music Awards provide formal recognition |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the talents of musicians and other artistic professionals in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Texas music industry; this year's event is being held at the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Palestine Civic Center and Michael Martin Murphey will perform; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | members of the academy, the retail website, and the music |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | industry are commended for their efforts to further the interests |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Texas music; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby recognize April 26, 2009, as Texas Music |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Awards Day in Texas and extend to all affiliated with the awards |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | show best wishes for a successful event; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to |
